GM Recalls Another 8.2 Million Vehicles

General Motors announced on June 30 the recall of an additional 8.2 million vehicles in North America due to another ignition switch defect, The Associated Press reported.

GM’s newest recall brought their total number of vehicles recalled to 40 million in the United States in this year alone.

Chrysler issued a recall for nearly 700,000 vehicles in North America on the same day for a similar issue that may allow the ignition switch to suddenly turn off while in operation. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched an investigation into Chrysler minivan and sport utility vehicles’ ignition switches on June 18. These massive recalls have initiated a discussion on the safety of American car parts as a whole.
