Texting Bans Connected to Drop in Car Accident Injuries

A report recently published in the American Journal of Public Health found that car accident-related injuries, as documented by hospital records, have decreased by 7% between the years 2003 and 2010 in states that strictly enforce texting while driving bans.

Texas A&M School of Public Health assistant professor Alva Ferdinand said the decrease in car crash injuries is especially evident in states that primarily enforce texting bans, which means police officers can pull someone over for suspicion of texting rather than “secondary enforcement” which means that another violation has to take place before the officer can enforce any texting-while-driving policies.

At present, 45 states and Washington, D.C. have imposed bans on texting while driving.

Texting while driving has been taken so seriously in recent years because of how common and dangerous this behavior is. If you have been involved in an accident where it was determined that the other driver was using their mobile device, our attorneys at the Law Offices of Vic Feazell, P.C., in Austin can fight to recover the financial losses you’ve accumulated in your accident.
