81k Subaru Vehicles Equipped With Takata Airbags Recalled

Auto manufacturer Subaru recently told the U.S. auto safety regulators that they will recall 81,000 older vehicles to change the faulty airbags made by Takata, a May 31 article on autoblog.com reported.

In the recall documents forwarded by the automaker to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall affected Subaru vehicles that were made from January 2003 to May 2005. Reports revealed that the airbags installed in the passenger seat of the vehicles were supplied by Takata. Upon deployment, the airbag inflators in the vehicles may explode and shoot off metal bits at occupants, possibly resulting in serious or fatal injuries. Some previous models of Saab vehicles were also affected in the recall.
